In My Shoes

The "In My Shoes" program is a comprehensive memory care initiative developed by SAL Management Group to enhance the quality of life for residents with Alzheimer's and other forms of dementia. Inspired by Dr. Bill Thomas's approach to combating the "Three Plagues" of boredom, loneliness, and helplessness in elder care, this program focuses on reintroducing vitality and purpose into residents' daily experiences. Key components of the "In My Shoes" program include:

  • Super Caregivers: Professionally trained and compassionate staff who have completed the Alzheimer's Association EssentiALZ certification, equipping them with specialized skills to support residents with memory care needs.
  • Personalized Resident Assessment: An in-depth evaluation of each resident's history, interests, and routines to create customized activity plans that promote independence and a sense of purpose.
  • Pet Therapy: Regular visits from various animals, such as cats, dogs, and birds, to provide comfort and companionship, enhancing residents' emotional well-being.
  • Sensory Stations: Accessible 24/7, these stations offer engaging activities like cleaning, laundry, reading, childcare simulations, office tasks, and arts and crafts, designed to evoke positive memories and provide meaningful engagement.
  • Music Therapy: Availability of music players and headphones, allowing residents to enjoy their favorite tunes, which can stimulate cognitive function and uplift moods.
  • Dynamic Activity Calendar: A diverse schedule of daily activities tailored to residents' physical, intellectual, social, vocational, educational, emotional, and spiritual needs, encouraging active participation and community involvement.
